Our model

How we work with founders

Skyclad is a venture studio built for non-technical founders. You bring the idea and the funding. We bring 16+ years of CTO experience, an engineering team that's ready on day one, and a long-term commitment to the outcome — not just the handoff.

What "venture studio" means

Venture studio vs. agency vs. hiring a CTO

If you've never worked with a venture studio before, here's the cleanest way to see the difference.

Hiring a CTO

  • Six to eighteen months to find and close the right person
  • Six-figure salary plus equity before a line of code is shipped
  • You evaluate the candidate in a domain you don't understand
  • If the hire is wrong, you've lost a year and the goodwill of investors

Using an agency

  • A brief goes in, a codebase comes out — and then they leave
  • Optimised for delivery speed, not for your business outcome
  • No single person owns whether the technology is the right technology
  • When something breaks in production, you're on your own to fix it
The exchange

What you bring, what we bring

You bring

  • The idea and the domain understanding behind it
  • The vision for what this business should become
  • The funding the business needs to grow, ship, and succeed
  • The business judgement and customer relationships we can't invent

We bring

  • CTO-level technical leadership embedded in your company
  • The architecture, the stack, and the roadmap decisions
  • A senior engineering team assembled around your specific problem
  • Accountability for what ships, how it performs, and what it costs
Getting started

Your first 30, 60, 90 days

Every engagement is different, but here's the rhythm of how a serious build typically unfolds.

Days 0–30

Understand, decide, plan

We spend the first month going deep on the problem. We meet your customers or your regulator, audit any existing code or vendor contracts, choose the stack, and produce a plan you can see and challenge. By the end of week four, there is a concrete roadmap and a team lined up against it.

Days 31–60

Build the first useful thing

Heads down on the first working version — the one you can put in front of a customer, a partner, or an investor. We keep the scope honest, ship in short cycles, and make sure you're never wondering what the engineering team is actually doing this week.

Days 61–90

Validate in the real world

We move from prototype to something real users touch. We wire up the observability, fix what breaks, and start making the technical decisions that turn a demo into a product. By day ninety, you have a clear picture of what the next six months look like — and whether the business case is real.

Questions founders ask us

Frequently asked questions

If what you're looking for isn't here, you'll often find it in the domains we build in or the regions we work from.

Do I need to be technical to work with Skyclad?

No. The whole point of Skyclad is that we're the technical side of your company. Most of the founders we work with come from operations, business, finance, healthcare, defence, or industry backgrounds. You bring the domain and the vision; we bring the technology leadership and the engineering team.

Do you take equity in my company?

It depends on the idea. On some ventures we go in as long-term co-founders and take equity; on others we operate purely as your embedded CTO and engineering team. Which shape makes sense is something we decide with you early in the conversation, and we never pressure anyone to give up equity to start.

What's the difference between Skyclad and a software agency?

An agency takes a brief, delivers a codebase, and hands it off. Skyclad joins your business. We own the technology decisions, we stay accountable for the outcome, and we remain the technical backbone until you are ready to bring that capability in-house. We are a partner, not a vendor.

How quickly can we start?

Our usual first conversation happens within a week of you reaching out. From there, a serious engagement can begin in two to four weeks — we use that window to understand the problem deeply, shape a realistic plan, and assemble the right people around it.

What if I only have an early-stage idea?

That's often the best time to talk to us. Early-stage is where the wrong technical decision compounds for years. We help shape what to build first, what to validate, and what not to waste money on before the idea has been tested.

Which regions do you work in?

We work with founders across MENA (with our base in Dubai, UAE), Singapore and wider South-East Asia, and the US East Coast.

What domains do you specialise in?

Hardware and electric vehicles, defence technology, medtech and regulated healthcare, government and civic technology, marine and maritime systems, and AI / deep tech. The common thread is that these are domains where getting the technology wrong has real consequences.

Ready for the first conversation?

If this sounds like the kind of partner you have been looking for, the next step is a short application. You'll hear back from us within a week.
